Understanding attention, focus and executive functioning
Suspecting you might have ADHD can feel confusing, especially if challenges with attention, organisation, impulsivity, restlessness or distractibility have impacted your work, relationships or daily life. An Adult ADHD assessment can help clarify whether ADHD is contributing to your experiences and guide next steps.
What is an Adult ADHD assessment?
An Adult ADHD assessment is a thorough psychological evaluation designed to understand patterns of attention, impulsivity and executive functioning. It considers your current symptoms, developmental history and how these have affected your life over time. This assessment is not a quick checklist, but a structured clinical interview supplemented with validated questionnaires and collateral information.
Assessment process
1. Initial Screening & Intake
-
We begin with a free 30-minute consultation to explore your concerns and determine whether a full assessment is appropriate.
-
During this call, we’ll discuss your symptoms, history, and what you hope to gain from assessment.
2. Comprehensive Assessment
If an assessment is recommended:
-
You’ll complete online questionnaires about attention, behaviour and daily functioning prior to your assessment interview.
-
We will conduct a 2–3 hour clinical interview online exploring:
-
Your current difficulties with attention, organisation, impulsivity or restlessness
-
Developmental history, including childhood behaviours
-
Contextual factors and any co-occurring emotional or cognitive challenges
-
-
Where possible, supporting evidence from school reports or a corroborating person (e.g., family member) is requested as part of the assessment.
3. Feedback & Report
-
After the assessment, you’ll receive a detailed written report outlining the findings and whether criteria for ADHD are met.
-
We’ll also schedule a feedback session to discuss the results, recommendations, and next steps, including support options or referral pathways.
Why Choose a Clinical Psychologist for an Adult ADHD Assessment?
Comprehensive ADHD assessments should consider differential diagnoses and co-occurring conditions, and requires skill in clinical interviewing, interpretation of symptom patterns across the lifespan, and understanding of functioning in daily life. Psychologists are trained to:
-
Administer and interpret validated clinical measures
-
Explore developmental and functional history
-
Consider other explanations for symptoms (e.g., anxiety, depression, executive function difficulties unrelated to ADHD)
Assessment Fees & Booking
Assessment fee: $1800 (GST included). This includes the full assessment, written report, and feedback session.
Payment is required prior to scheduling the full assessment.
Important Notes
-
Completing screening and an assessment does not guarantee a diagnosis. ADHD diagnosis is based on meeting established clinical criteria over the lifespan.
-
This service focuses on adult ADHD assessments; I do not currently provide autism spectrum or other neurodevelopmental assessments unless specified.
